JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to strive to strengthen competence and improve the quality of industrial human resources (HR) to be better prepared to face the industrial era 4.0 in Indonesia. By 2025, the industrial sector is targeted to be able to contribute to the national GDP of USD133 billion. This target will be supported by 185 million people with internet access, which is the 4th largest in the world, as well as Indonesia's position as the fastest digital economy and industry 4.0 player in Southeast Asia.

To realize the readiness of industrial human resources, the Ministry of Industry carries out Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 4.0 in the vocational education environment it organizes. "TVET 4.0 is vocational education and training that provides knowledge and skills for work in the industrial 4.0 field," explained the Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry, Arus Gunawan in Jakarta, Tuesday (13/9).

To maximize the application of industry 4.0 in higher education units, the Ministry of Industry's BPSDMI conducted a TVET 4.0 assessment which was able to measure the level of TVET 4.0 implementation on the Ministry of Industry's vocational campuses as a first step.

Meanwhile, at the secondary education level, the Ministry of Industry's BPSDMI applies a dual system learning method for the industrial vocational schools it fosters, with a proportion of 70% practice and 30% theory. Thus, the method prioritizes practice over theory.

One of the vocational high schools owned by the Ministry of Industry is SMK-SMAK Bogor which also implements an integrated curriculum between the Ministry of Education and Culture, International Industry, and the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI). Learning at SMK-SMAK Bogor lasts for four years, including an internship program in the industry for six months. "The curriculum that is in sync with the industry supports the SMK graduates so that they are ready to work and go directly to work," explained the Head of BPSDMI. (LM)
