CHIBA - The Indonesian Ministry of Trade facilitated ten local Indonesian game developers to participate in a trade mission to Japan on September 15, 2022. This series of trade missions includes participation in business forums and one-on-one business matching (exploration of business deals) with communities and industry activists of Japanese games, as well as participation in the 2022 Tokyo Game Show (TGS).

"Indonesia's participation in TGS 2022 is a concrete step in collaboration between the government and stakeholders in the Indonesian game industry to advance the game ecosystem, animation, and local applications. We welcome collaboration efforts like this which really help Indonesian businesses to go international and be active in the global supply chain of the digital and creative industries," said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

This series of trade missions to Japan is the result of cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka, and the ASEAN–Japan Center. Meanwhile, the Indonesia–Japan Business Forum and Business Matching event specifically for the game sector itself was held in Chiba, Japan, Thursday (15/9). This activity brought together the Indonesian delegation with around 50 participants from local Japanese game, animation and application industry communities and associations such as Konami and Bandai Namco.

Didi added that the development of the homeland game industry has bright prospects. Based on New Zoo's research in 2020, the economic value of games in Indonesia reached USD 1.7 billion or around Rp. 24.2 trillion. On the other hand, the Indonesian game industry managed to contribute 2.19 percent or Rp. 24.88 trillion of the total gross domestic product (GDP). (LM)
