Pertamina NRE supports KAI's energy transition efforts

29 September 2022 07:44

JAKARTA - Pertamina NRE supports the efforts of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in reducing carbon emissions through the provision of PLTS at Gambir Station. KAI inaugurated the utilization of the PLTS on Monday (26/9).

The inauguration ceremony was held at Gambir Station and was attended by KAI Finance Director Salusra Wijaya and the board of directors, as well as Pertamina NRE Project and Operations Director Norman Ginting. Norman said that the use of PLTS in KAI's working area was a follow-up to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities on March 9, 2022 regarding the Development of New and Renewable Energy in KAI's Assets.

“SOEs are encouraged to play a major role in decarbonization efforts. Utilization of renewable energy such as this KAI initiation will contribute to emission reduction. For that we are very enthusiastic about this collaboration. We really welcome other collaboration opportunities that will encourage the achievement of the net zero emission target,” said Norman.

Salusra said the PLTS installation was an energy transition effort carried out by KAI by using New Renewable Energy (EBT) to supply electrical energy in various KAI assets.

In addition to Gambir Station, KAI has also utilized PLTS in the Jakarta Railway Center building. In total, the capacity of the two PLTS is 80.5 kWp. KAI will gradually increase the capacity of the PLTS and expand the use of PLTS in its other assets. Another NRE potential that the two entities can collaborate on is the use of hydrogen as a train fuel. (LM)
