PURBALINGGA - Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport in Purbalingga, Central Java, is ready to serve commercial flights again. Six regional heads in the western and southern parts of Central Java, namely: Purbalingga, Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Pemalang, and Kebumen, have expressed their commitment to ensure the occupancy rate of aircraft passengers through blocking seats or purchasing seats.

This seat purchase scheme will be discussed further between airlines and their respective regional representatives, with facilitation from the Ministry of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation said that the effort to guarantee block seats was carried out as an initial effort so that flights from and to JB Sudirman Airport could immediately operate again after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. "We hope that this block seat will not last long and after that it will become a normal flight," he said.

It is targeted that starting in October 2022, all parties, including local governments, flight operators, and airport operators, have agreed to commit to organizing three flights in one week as a start. "This is evidence of good cohesiveness and cooperation between the Ministry of Transportation, regional governments, airport operators, and airlines to ensure there are flights at this airport," said the Minister of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation said that flights from and to JB Sudirman Airport are very potential and the people of Purbalingga and surrounding areas have been waiting for flight services at this airport. The existence of this airport is believed to provide many positive benefits for the economic progress of the people in Purbalingga and its surroundings.

With the Covid-19 pandemic starting to subside and the reopening of the revitalized Halim Airport, it is hoped that flight services to and from small airports on the island of Java such as JB Sudirman Purbalingga Airport can be reopened soon. (LM)
