Transportation Minister encourages central and regional institutions to be role models for the use of electric vehicles

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi encourages Central Government agencies and Regional Governments to become role models for the use of electric vehicles, following the issuance of the Presidential Instruction of the Republic of Indonesia (Inpres) Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Use of Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles (KBLBB) in Central Government Agencies and Local government.

"This Presidential Instruction No. 7 needs to be followed up by Ministries/Institutions and also Local Governments, in accordance with their authority to take concrete and strategic steps, to encourage the use of electric vehicles in their respective agencies," said the Minister of Transportation while attending the Webinar "Efforts to Accelerate the Implementation of Vehicle Policies Electricity” organized by the Transportation Policy Agency (Baketrans) of the Ministry of Transportation on Thursday (6/10), in Jakarta.

The Minister of Transportation further explained, to encourage the implementation of electric vehicles, the government has issued a KBLBB roadmap policy. "The KBLBB roadmap policy, both for government operational vehicles and road transportation, has been set from 2021 to 2030, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries," said the Minister of Transportation.

The Ministry of Transportation also encourages the use of public transportation using electric vehicles through the buy the service (BTS) scheme, including in the international event of the G20 Summit in Bali in November this year. "Next year we will apply electric buses with the BTS scheme in Surabaya and Bandung," said the Minister of Transportation.

The Ministry of Transportation noted that as of October 3, 2022, there were 28,188 units of electric vehicles based on the Type Test Registration Certificate (SRUT) issued. The vehicles consist of 22,942 units of two-wheeled vehicles (22,833 units of two-wheeled vehicles, 109 units of converted two-wheeled vehicles), 4,904 four-wheeled passenger vehicles, 280 units of three-wheeled vehicles, 56 units of buses, and six units of freight cars.
