Retail sales performance expected to improve in September 2022

JAKARTA - Retail sales performance is predicted to increase in September 2022. This is reflected in the September 2022 Real Sales Index (IPR) forecast of 200.0, or 5.5% (yoy) growth, higher than the previous month's growth with 4.9%. (yoy). The increase was mainly supported by sales growth in the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group, sales improvement in the Other Household Appliances Group, as well as in the Information and Communication Equipment Group.

On a monthly basis, retail sales growth is predicted to contract by 0.9% (mtm), in line with declines in the Spare Parts and Accessories, Food, Beverages and Tobacco and Motor Vehicle Fuels category.

In August 2022, retail sales performance continued to grow positively. This is reflected in the IPR in August 2022 which was recorded at 201.8, or grew by 4.9% (yoy). The positive performance of retail sales was supported by the increasing growth of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group, amidst the continued strong growth of the Spare Parts and Accessories Group, the Clothing Sub-group, and the Cultural and Recreational Goods Group.

In terms of prices, respondents predict that inflationary pressure in November 2022 will tend to be stable and in February 2023 will decline. General Price Expectation (IEH) November 2022 was recorded at 135.4, relatively stable from 135.3 in the previous month. Meanwhile, the IEH in February 2023 was recorded at 138.7 or lower than the previous month at 144.7. (LM)
