WHO, ECDC: Europe likely entering another COVID-19 wave

13 October 2022 10:11

JAKARTA - The World Health Organization and European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said another wave of COVID-19 infections could occur in Europe by seeing the number of cases increasing in several regions.

"Although we are not where we were one year ago, it is clear that the COVID-19 pandemic is still not over," said WHO’s Europe director Hans Kluge and ECDC director Andrea Ammon quoted from Reuters.

They are seeing indicators of an increase in cases in Europe suggesting that a new wave of infections has begun. Data from the WHO noted an 8 percent increase in cases in early October compared to the previous week.

For information, millions of people across Europe remain unvaccinated against COVID-19. WHO and ECDC urged countries in Europe to administer both flu and COVID-19 vaccines ahead of expected surge in cases of seasonal influenza. (LM)
