Cooking oil manufacturers to face the court next week

14 October 2022 12:04

JAKARTA – There will be 27 cooking oil manufacturers, those of which have allegedly hindered the cooking oil distribution and triggered the cooking oil price surge in early 2022, that will face their first court sessions next week (17/10).

Ahmad Muhari, Head of the Court Clerk of the Indonesia Competition Commissioner (lit. Panitera Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha/KPPU), confirmed the number of companies that are involved in said case. “After the Alleged Violation Report is read, the alleged may make their statements in response to the report before KPPU while providing proofs,” he explained in the press release earlier today (14/10).

According to Muhari, the entire investigation will take place no later than 30 days after the first court session. These oil manufacturers are suspected of restricting the distribution and sales of cooking oil, resulting in a massive selling price surge for consumers earlier this year. This practice is said to violate Article 5 and 19 letter C of Act No.5/1999 regarding the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unhealthy Business Competition.

These alleged companies in question are PT Batara Elok Semesta Terpadu, PT Berlian Ekasakti Tangguh, PT Asianagro Agungjaya, PT Indokarya Internusa, PT Megasurya Mas, PT Mikie Oleo Nabati, PT Salim Ivomas Pratama Tbk, PT Smart Tbk, and PT Permata Hijau Sawit. (LK)
