04 November 2022 07:22

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated the large automotive manufacturers who have started producing electric vehicles. The Minister of Transportation asked industry players to continue to aggressively produce and market electric vehicles in Indonesia, either through the production of new vehicles, or through conversion from fossil fuel vehicles (BBM) into battery-based electric motorized vehicles.

“I appreciate that several major motorcycle manufacturers have started producing electric vehicles. We have to start thinking about converting from BBM motorcycles to electricity, so that the increase can be even more massive," said the Minister of Transportation at the opening of the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) exhibition, at JCC Senayan, Wednesday (2/11).

The Minister of Transportation further explained that the government and stakeholders continue to strive to create an electric vehicle ecosystem by preparing supporting facilities such as: easily available batteries, increasing charging stations, and other supporting facilities. "Some time ago I met the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta to discuss the obligation of buildings in Jakarta to have charging stations," said the Minister of Transportation.

As of October 25, 2022, there are 24,847 units of electric motorcycles that already have a Type Test Registration Certificate (SRUT), with details of 24,738 new units and 109 units of converted motorcycles. The Ministry of Transportation continues to encourage all parties to increase the number of electric vehicles in Indonesia, both through new production and conversion.

The Indonesia Motorcycle Show (IMOS) 2022 automotive exhibition organized by AISI will take place from 2-6 November 2022 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan. Electric motorcycles became the main theme of this exhibition, with the presence of 14 brands of electric motorcycles. Several motorcycle brands that enliven this exhibition include: Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Niu, Energica, Reevo, Polytron, Treeletrik, Davigo, Ion Mobility, U-Winfly, and Volta. (LM)
