JAKARTA. Until November 3, 2022, Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded cumulative capital outflow in the Government Securities (lit. Surat Berharga Negara/SBN) market of IDR 176.33 trillion.

In the official announcement yesterday (6/11), Nita A. Muelgini, Director of Communication Department of BI, confirmed that based on the settlement date, until November 3, 2022, foreign investors sold IDR 176.33 trillion in the SBN market. In the meantime, BI also recorded IDR 78.86 trillion of foreign capital entering the stock market.

Bank Indonesia also noticed that in the first week of November 2022, the capital inflow in the SBN market reached IDR 80 billion, while the foreign capital inflow in the stock market arrived at IDR 820 billion. Therefore, the capital inflow in the domestic financial market in the first week of November 2022 clocked up to IDR 900 billion in total.

BI estimated that Indonesia’s Balance of Payments (BOP) will remain safe despite the pressure coming from this foreign capital flow. The current transaction in Q3 2022 is projected to reach another surplus, continuing the triumph seen in the previous quarter, which involved a trade surplus of USD 14.9 billion. BI then predicted that the BOP in 2022 will remain stable, maintaining the current transaction surplus of 0.4% to 1.2% of GDP. (AM/ZH)
