Timah to give Ausmelt furnace a go next year

23 December 2022 22:07

JAKARTA. PT Timah Tbk (TINS) will initiate the operation of its smelting facility that uses the Top Submerge Lance (TSL) technology, Ausmelt Furnace, in early 2023.

Achmad Ardianto, President Director of TINS, claimed that Ausmelt Furnace has completed the hot commissioning phase. “We had finished the hot commissioning phase and managed to produce tin metals with a purity level of 99%. Next, we will immediately start the production rump-up and performance test,” he added.

The production capacity of Ausmelt Furnace is estimated to reach 50% in its first year. It will be equivalent to 65% of the production plan in 2023.

Adrianto then revealed that the transformation of the refinery technology in Ausmelt Furnace is related to technology optimisation. This technology transformation will also support the company’s production efficiency.

“While we are ensuring the reliability of TSL in Ausmelt Furnace, we will prepare the human resources and other technical aspects, including raw materials supply,” Adrianto added.

In the long run, TINS projects Ausmelt Furnace to be able to process tin ores with low purity level, starting from 40% Sn. Meanwhile, its production capacity is set to be able to reach 40 thousand tons of crude tins per year, or 35 thousand of metric tons of ingot per annum. (KR/ZH)
