Playing safe, Garuda Indonesia to refocus on profitable routes

27 December 2022 22:30

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) has decided to focus on serving domestic flights following its recent extensive restructuring process. Furthermore, it will continue to implement efficiency in 2023 by being selective in choosing active international routes.

According to Ade R. Susardi, Director of Service and Commerce of Garuda Indonesia, throughout 2022, Garuda Indonesia has utilised its A330-900 Neo aircraft for several domestic flights, serving routes from Jakarta to Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Medan.

"We also assign the A330-900 Neo aircraft of Citilink for umrah," Irfan Setiaputra, President Director of Garuda Indonesia, further confirmed during the Annual Public Expose of Garuda Indonesia in North Jakarta today (27/12).

For the record, throughout 2022, Garuda Indonesia has managed to fly out 50 thousand passengers for umrah. Next year, the number of participants is estimated to be doubled to 100 thousand.

According to the Setiaputra, GIAA will be more cautious and exercise non-expansive initiatives next year, following the possible global recession. Moreover, it will rely only on profitable routes, such as flights bound for Bali and other domestic routes, as well as focusing on several chosen international routes, including umrah and hajj transportation.
