JAKARTA. The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, plans to narrow down state-owned enterprises to only 30 companies so that BUMN is not seen as an ivory tower. This plan has been stated in the BUMN Roadmap 2024-2034.

“If it is possible, we will reduce BUMN to 30 companies with 12 clusters from the current 41 enterprises. Thus, BUMN will not become an ivory tower and monopolise everything,” Thohir mentioned during the press conference of BUMN, titled Growing and Strong for Indonesia 2023, yesterday (2/1).

Furthermore, Thohir also mentioned how BUMN will establish an ecosystem with SMEs, regional business owners, and private sector. He wishes to see BUMN as the national economic fortress that could intervene should something critical ensues. Therefore, he urges BUMN to be profitable. “If not, how are we going to run them?” he asked.

Throughout 2022, BUMN has integrated several industries, starting from tourism to banking and transportation. Thohir also reveals that the ministry is currently consolidating hotels, narrowing them down from 103 to 23 hotels and bringing them into one tourism ecosystem, while still maintaining cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Education.

Thohir also states his plan to conduct corporate actions by merging Damri Public Company (Perum Damri) and PPD Public Company (Perum PPD), as well as possibly combining PT Angkasa Pura I and PT Angkasa Pura II. “In the next years, there will be more merger coming our way. After PPD and Damri, one of our existing plan is Angkasa Pura merger, although it will not occur soon,” he concluded. (AM/ZH)
