JAKARTA – In order to strengthen the regional payment connectivity (RPC) in ASEAN countries, the digital wallet DANA is now available as a payment method for transactions in Malaysia.

After the Indonesian and Malaysian governments inaugurated the implementation of payment interconnectivity using QR code last Monday (8/5), now Indonesian and Malaysians alike may pay retail transactions, online and offline, via Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) and DuitNow QR Code (Malaysian QR code system), in both countries freely.

DANA is one of the first e-wallet applications that participates in this initiative as both issuer and acquirer. Previously, DANA has been known with its initiative of cross-border QR code utilisation in Thailand back in 2022. “It is an honour for DANA to be trusted as the first digital wallet that could carry out cross-border QR code payment in Malaysia,” Vince Iswara, CEO and Co-Founder of DANA Indonesia, announced in the official statement today (9/5).

The improvement of cross-border payment connectivity through QR code has indeed become one of the main issues discussed during the Indonesia G20 Presidency in 2022. “This collaboration will provide more alternatives for the users, as well as becoming the key in enhancing efficiency, economic inclusion and digital finance in the region, and macroeconomic stability,” Perry Warijyo, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), said in the press release of BI yesterday (8/5).

“Hopefully, DANA’s participation in the cross-border QR code implementation may contribute in promoting financial inclusion and literacy according to the Blueprint of Indonesia’s Payment System 2025 by Bank Indonesia,” Iswara concluded. (ZH)
