JAKARTA – The management of PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), or mostly known as Surge, expressed their optimism towards its telecommunication infrastructure (telco) business line, which is deemed capable to be the main growth engine for its performance in the future.

For the record, as of June 2024, the contribution of telco segment in WIFI’s revenue skyrocketed by up to 170.49% year-on-year (yoy), the highest surge rate compared to two other business lines of WIFI, namely advertising and digital platform. This business line generated IDR 117.5 billion in revenue in H1 2024.

“We project that telco segment will surpass advertising sector by the end of this year,” said Gilman P. Nugraha, Director of Surge, when met at Public Expose Live 2024 of WIFI Tuesday morning (27/8).

In the meantime, advertising segment, although covering 59% of WIFI’s revenue in H1 2024, only grew 40.54% yoy to IDR 184.1 billion at the end of June 2024. The contribution of digital platform, on the other hand, saw a massive downturn of 80.8% yoy to IDR 8.9 billion.

“This segment used to reign during the pandemic. Once we started going offline, there is a contraction in digital business,” claimed Nugraha.

In response to the trend of telco companies mass-divesting their fibre optic assets, Surge will continue to review several options to expand its fibre optic assets through acquisition.

“The market potential is still expansive, with fixed broadband user stuck at 15% in Indonesia,” said Yune Marketatmo, President Director of WIFI, on the same occasion.

Until now, Nugraha said that the utilisation of fibre optic network of Surge is still below 25%. “We only started in 2023, so this could already be considered as fast market acceptance,” he said.

It is also mentioned that WIFI’s current bandwidth capacity is still at 5.6 Tbps. Nugraha further said that in order to increase bandwidth capacity to its maximum level at 64 Tbps, the company will require gradual investment that will reach a total of IDR 800-900 billion in future. (ZH)
