27 March 2014

Cement producer PT Semen Baturaja (Persero) Tbk (SMBR) is highly optimistic to grow by 20% this year though national consumption of cement is predicted to rise by not more than 6% this year.

It expects sales volume of 1.5 million tonnes in 2014, growing 19% in line with recent demand increase in the last quarter 2013 and the operation of the 750,000-capacity new cement mill. Though its national market share is still small, compared to 63 million tonnes consumption last year, it dominates the market in South Sumatera.

Semen Baturaja recorded sales Rp1.17 trillion in 2013, a 6.5% increase from that or the earlier year. Sales volume was 1.26 million tonnes, rising 2% while average selling price was up 4% to Rp925,713 per tonne. How Baturaja gets high growth amid stagnant market?
