18 July 2019 15:01

JAKARTA. PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) said that there was a "well kick" or the emergence of dangerous gas bubbles in Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) block, so the company's operations in this block were stopped.

Based on the official statement received by idnfinancials.com, the "well kick" took place at the YYA-1 reactivation well. Pertamina also evacuated around 60 crew on duty at the well. "PHE ONWJ has activated the Incident Management Team (IMT ) to overcome the incident, "explained Pertamina.

At present, PHE ONWJ also claims to be coordinating with SKK MIgas, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and a number of related agencies to handle "well kick" in the YYA-1 well.

There were no casualties in the incident. However, PHE ONWJ ensures that emergency status has been established when there is a "well kick". at the YYA-1 well.

For information, "well kick" occurs because there is an unwanted flow of fluid into the well hole during the drilling activity. One of the countermeasures for the "well kick" incident is by permanently closing oil and gas wells. (KR/AR)
