Ministry of Industry targets industry to grow 5.3% this year

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry is targeting industry to grow 5.3% this year. The government is increasingly focused on boosting the performance of the manufacturing industry as one of the drivers of the national economy.

"So, the government is now focused on developing the manufacturing industry sector," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the Ministry of Industry Press Conference on "2019 Performance and the Industrial Development Outlook for 2020" in Jakarta, Monday (1/6).

"For the GDP growth of the non-oil and gas processing industry in 2019, we estimate 4.48% - 4.60%," said Minister Agus. Meanwhile, in 2020, it is projected to be able to reach 4.80% - 5.30%. The increase target is in line with the soaring productivity of a number of sectors through additional investments.

The Minister of Industry added, the contribution of non-oil and gas manufacturing industry GDP to total GDP in 2019 was estimated at 17.58 - 17.70%. In 2020, the contribution will increase to 17.80 - 17.95% along with the GDP growth of the non-oil and gas processing industry which is getting better. In addition, the investment value in 2020 is predicted to be in the range of Rp 307 trillion - Rp 351 trillion. (LM)
