JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has affirmed that the Directorate General of Taxes must anticipate the impact of the digital economy, particularly because the government will regulate e-commerce taxes through the Tax Omnibus Law.

“I hope the Directorate General of Taxes will anticipate this trend in terms of infrastructure, methods, policy, and innovation. Technology and innovation are here to stay,” said Ms Indrawati in her opening address at the First 2020 Directorate General of Taxes National Leadership Meeting, Monday (20/1).

“It is going to be even changing the way we live, and the economy will be affected.”

Tax officials, Ms Indrawati added, must be up-to-date with the latest technological development so that they can implement their knowledge on the digital economy as well as its impact on the national economy.

“Use your knowledge to serve the Republic. Consider the country’s interests, and be proud when you are able to build a system that defends them,” concluded Ms Indrawati. (MS)
