JAKARTA - Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party politician Ahmad Riza Patria has been elected as Deputy Governor of Jakarta by a Deputy Gubernatorial Election Plenary Meeting held by the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives, Monday (6/4).

Mr Patria won 81 votes out of a total of 100 cast by Regional House members, while his rival Nurmansjah from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) won 17 and the remaining two votes were declared invalid.

After the announcement, the Regional House of Representatives is due to report the result to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The position was vacant since last year after Sandiaga Uno resigned in order to run as Prabowo Subianto’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election. Mr Uno ran and Governor Anies Baswedan were elected in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, defeating incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama/Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono/Sylviana Murni.
