COVID-19: Anies says extension of Jakarta restrictions ‘almost a certainty’

20 April 2020 12:59

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said there is a possibility that large-scale social restrictions in the capital will be extended to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

“It is almost a certainty that large-scale social restrictions need to be extended,” said the former Education Minister in a video conference with the House of Representatives’ COVID-19 Supervisory Team, Thursday (16/4).

According to Minister of Health’s Regulation No. 9/2020, large-scale social restrictions are imposed for 14 days. However, said Mr Baswedan, the COVID-19 outbreak cannot be tackled in two weeks.

Thus, he said relevant parties, including the House’s COVID-19 Supervisory Team, can invite epidemiologists to explain the projection of COVID-19 handling and impacts scientifically.

In addition, Mr Baswedan also said the Jakarta Municipal Government needs “extra work” to prevent the spread of the virus due to the city’s limited infrastructure. (MS)
