JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry proposes that the meat processing industry to be given access to raw meat at competitive prices, so that it can be more competitive. In 2019, the meat processing industry grew by 28.87% with a production volume of 242,791 tons.
Director-General of Agro-Industry of the Ministry of Industry Abdul Rochim said in a press release on Monday (4/5) that his party has proposed to provide access for meat processing businesses to import raw meat directly, and to separate the import for consumption needs and for industrial needs.
According to him, there are demands for processed meat products on the market. For this reason, it is necessary to maintain the availability of raw meat.
However, the meat processing industry is also facing challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the demand from food vendors in tourist sites, schools, or other public places. "But the demand from household consumers is growing because they can buy processed meat products online," he said. (LK/AR)
