Garudafood, Indofood, and Wings are facing a lawsuit in Surabaya

SURABAYA. Three of Indonesia's largest Food and Beverage (F&B) companies, PT Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya Tbk (GOOD), PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF), and PT Wings Surya, are facing a lawsuit in the Surabaya District Court for allegedly committing illegal acts resulting in environmental damage.

According to the information available at the Surabaya District Court, the lawsuit was filed by Perempuan Pejuang Kali Surabaya (PPKS) group on 7 September 2020 at the Surabaya District Court, with case number 834 / Pdt.G / LH / 2020 / PN Sby. The first hearing for this case will be held on 5 October 2020.

The petitum filed is a compensation of Rp4 billion that must be paid by GOOD, INDF and Wings Surya. The compensation funds will be distributed to five plaintiffs to support the restoration efforts of Surabaya riverbank.

GOOD's management has confirmed about the lawsuit. However, they stated that the lawsuit would not interfere with the company's business. "There is no impact on the operational, legal, financial condition or sustainability of the company," said Paulus Tedjosutikno, Corporate Secretary of GOOD through a disclosure posted on the Indonesia Stock Exchange's website today.

For information, GOOD's share price was opened at Rp1,290 per share, or 5.81% lower than its closing price yesterday. The number of GOOD shares traded was 422,300 shares with a trading frequency of 306 times. Meanwhile, INDF's share price today remained at the level of Rp1,290 per share, with a trading volume of 5.94 million shares and a total transaction value of Rp44.72 billion. (KR/AR)
