KPPI is investigating the surge in cigarette paper imports

28 October 2020 11:52

JAKARTA. The Indonesian Safeguard Committee (KPPI) started an investigation on a surge in imports of cigarette paper goods, based on a report from the Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association (APKI).

Mardjoko, Chairman of KPPI, said that the increase in imports of cigarette paper products was reported by APKI since 1 October. He added that KPPI had seen a number of preliminary evidence provided by APKI. "There are early indications of serious losses or the threat of serious losses experienced by the domestic industry," said Mardjoko in a press release received by idnfinancials.com on Tuesday (27/10) yesterday.

Indications of losses for domestic industry players, said Mardjoko, can be seen from a number of indicators over the last three years (2016-2019). Starting from the decline in cigarette paper product production, capacity utilization, losses suffered by producers, and the decreasing domestic market share.

So far, KPPI has conveyed this investigation to a number of parties. Starting from domestic industry players, exporters, and importers. "Interested parties are welcome to register themselves no later than 15 days from the date of this announcement," said Mardjoko. (KR/AR)
