KAI to increase South Sumatra LRT operation starting from 31 December

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI will increase the operation of South Sumatra LRT to 88 trips starting from Thursday, 31 December 2020.

According to KAI Regional Division III Palembang Public Relations Manager Aida Suryanti, the policy aims to improve the quality of service for the community during the coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Starting from 31 December 2020, South Sumatra LRT will increase the number of trips to 88. At the start of the COVID-19, the number of trips was reduced from 74 to 22 trips per day on 1 July, and increased to 42 at the start of December,” Ms Suryanti said in an official statement on the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises’ website, Tuesday (29/12).

During the Christmas and New Year holiday seasons from 18 to 27 December, South Sumatra LRT recorded 25,187 passengers. Ms Suryanti affirmed that KAI and the South Sumatra Light Train Operation Centre (BPKARSS) as the joint operator of South Sumatra LRT are committed to implementing health protocols both at stations and on trains.

“We want South Sumatra LRT to be a safe, healthy, and fun public transportation service,” she said. (MS)
