WIFI to develop 580 edge data centres this year

05 July 2021 07:10

JAKARTA – PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI) would establish 580 edge data centres by the end of this year. This plan acts as a beginning step towards its target to erect more than 1000 edge data centres across Indonesia.

Hermansyah Haryono, the Chief Executive Officer of Solusi Sinergi Digital, reveals that the edge data centre locations would be close to public facilities, such as train stations and warehouses of Village Cooperative System (KUD). “Two primary locations of WIFI’s edge data centres would be near Manggarai and Cikarang Stations, operating in August 2021,” Haryono confirms in a press conference quoted Monday (5/7).

According to Haryono, the establishment of these data centres coincides with the growing trend of start-ups and digital economy growth outside metropolitan cities like Jakarta. Therefore, WIFI joins forces with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and KUD to implement the plan smoothly.

“WIFI is extending its cooperation regarding fibre optic with KAI and KUD to utilise 580 train stations and 1000 warehouses as the point of presence (POP) of the edge data centres,” Haryono adds.

The development of tier-2 edge data centres would involve building a 2x3 metre or 4x6 metre area holding 2-20 rack servers data room using 100 to 300 kWh. (LK/ZH)
