JAKARTA. PT Bio Farma (Persero) is currently preparing 5 million doses of booster vaccines for COVID-19 under the name IndoVac, which is manufactured for the first time in Indonesia.
Earlier this November, Bio Farma had secured an Emergency Use Authorisation from the Indonesian FDA (BPOM), making IndoVac the seventh vaccine that has been approved for use in Indonesia.
Honesti Basyir, President Director of Bio Farma, claimed that up until now, Bio Farma has been making preparation for the production capacity of 20 million doses. The production will take place in Bio Farma’s own production facility.
“We have arranged the production of IndoVac vaccine, starting from its raw materials to its supporting items, for a total of 20 million doses,” Basyir confimed in the official release.
According to its use authorisation, IndoVac will be distributed for people of over 18 years of age, who have been previously vaccinated with the primary vaccine of Sinovac. The usage for children is estimated to follow and will be officially authorised by December 2022.
“After obtaining the emergency use authorisation for children, IndoVac vaccine may be applied for wider range of age,” Basyir stated. (KR/ZH)
