FREN finally turned the tide after 4 years of consecutive losses

JAKARTA. PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk (FREN) managed to record a positive performance as of September 2022 after struggling with incessant losses for four consecutive years. FREN’s net profit throughout the first nine months of 2022 clocked up to IDR 1.64 trillion, in contrast with the net loss of IDR 441.72 billion seen in September 2021.

Based on the consolidated financial report of the company, the revenue was seen increasing 8.44% year-on-year (yoy) from IDR 7.64 trillion to IDR 8.28 trillion. The data segment generated the most revenue, scoring IDR 7.42 trillion, entailed by the non-data segment of IDR 211.51 billion, the interconnection service of IDR 215.85 billion, and other segments of IDR 435.32 billion.

Meanwhile, the operating expenses climbed 2.8% yoy higher to IDR 7.85 trillion. The depreciation and amortisation contributed the most to the expenses, reaching IDR 3.26 trillion. Meanwhile, the expenses for the operational, maintenance, and telecommunication service were rounded up to IDR 2.74 trillion, followed by the marketing sales expenses of IDR 1.01 trillion. “This year, our financial performances in Q1, Q2, and Q3 always arrived at above the average of the industry. We have managed to curb our previous years’ losses,” Merza Fachys, President Director of FREN, claimed in his official release yesterday (28/11).

As of now, FREN records 35.5 million users located in 220 cities in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. “Our target is to continuously grow above the industry’s average,” Fachys stated. In 2018, FREN’s users were stuck at 12 million people, which proliferated to 34 million users in 2021 and 35.5 million users in September 2022. (AM/ZH)
