JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia (BI) and Banque de France (BdF) have strengthened cooperation on digital payment system innovation and the prevention of terrorism financing. This agreement is part of a broader bilateral collaboration during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Indonesia on Wednesday (28/5).

Perry Warjiyo, Governor of BI, stated that the cooperation will enhance institutional ties between the central banks of Indonesia and France. “This memorandum of understanding marks an important milestone in advancing long-term relations between BI and BdF and goes beyond a symbolic commitment,” he said in a press release.

François Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of BdF, added that the collaboration aims to support monetary, financial, and sustainable financial stability.

The cooperation between BI and BdF encompasses digital innovation in payment systems, sustainable finance and climate-related financial risks, as well as regulatory and supervisory frameworks within the context of Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism/Counter-Proliferation Financing of Weapons of Mass Destruction (AML-CFT-CPF).

Implementation of the cooperation will include policy dialogues, experience and knowledge sharing, joint studies or research, capacity building, and data or information exchange.

Meanwhile, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Executive Director of BI’s Communication Department, said that the agreement between the central banks also covers monetary policy, macroprudential and financial stability, as well as payment and settlement systems.

Both BI and BdF reaffirmed their commitment to promoting financial stability, economic resilience, and sustainable growth at both national and global levels. (LK/KR/ZH)
