KLBF subsidiary partners with GE HealthCare to produce local CT scans

JAKARTA – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (KLBF) is expanding its business into the medical equipment segment with the inauguration of a CT scan factory in Bogor on Monday, 2 June 2025.
The facility will operate under PT Forsta Kalmedic Global, a KLBF subsidiary, in collaboration with global firm GE HealthCare. The investment value for this production site amounts to IDR 260 billion.
Yvone Astri Della Sijabat, Director of Forsta Kalmedic Global, stated that CT scan machines are among the top ten priority medical devices targeted for local production.
“So what the Forsta team will do, supported by the engineering team from GE HealthCare, is to carry out the assembly process. Starting from installing the cube and the generator,” Yvone said in Bogor on Monday (2/6/2025).
She added that raw materials for CT scan assembly are currently still imported, as Indonesia’s upstream industry is not yet developed. However, Forsta is committed to building a long-term production ecosystem by engaging local component manufacturers.
“It will take time, but we are gradually moving towards that. So we begin by developing human resource competence. This way, we can have skilled personnel capable of assembling high-tech medical devices,” she added.
KLBF President Director Bernadette Ruth Irawati stated that the CT scan factory marks Kalbe’s initial step in expanding into the medical equipment industry.
Previously, through PT Forsta Kalmedic Global, Kalbe had already developed dialyzer products (for dialysis treatment) as well as surgical suture technologies for medical needs.
“So yes, it’s just like that — we are gradually moving in that direction to seek opportunities, with the hope that this can become a source of growth going forward,” said Bernadette. (DH/KR/ZH)
