JAKARTA – Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) recorded trade surplus in April 2023 of USD 3.94 billion, growing from USD 2.83 billion seen in March 2023. This achievement is in line with the consecutive growth of trade of balance within the past 36 months since May 2020.

Based on the BPS data quoted Tuesday (16/5), the export reached USD 19.29 billion, whereas the import value clocked up to USD 15.35 billion. This achievement was much lower than the numbers in March, recording export of USD 23.42 billion and import of USD 50.29 billion.

The trade surplus was mostly supported by non-oil and gas commodities of USD 5.64 billion, which consist of mineral fuel, animal fats and oil, as well as steel. The oil and gas commodity recorded a deficit of USD 1.70 billion, comprising crude oil and other oil products.

The trade surplus in April 2023 mostly originated from export to India worth USD 1.11 billion, United States (US) of USD 913.8 million, and the Philippines of USD 656.7 million. The trade deficit was recorded from trades to Australia of minus USD 431.5 million, Thailand of minus USD 255.6 million, and Brazil of minus USD 216 million. (LK/ZH)
