Ministry of Industry supports the marketing of Yogyakarta handicraft products

JAKARTA - The handicraft industry in the country always provides opportunities for business people, especially in the small and medium industry (IKM) sector because of its considerable potential and prospective business. One of the government concerns is increasing sales of handicraft industry products from all over the archipelago, so that it can also be accepted in the international market.

"The future of the creative industry is quite promising and can be a source of economic value, because in this industry there are content ideas, art, innovation, technology, and intellectual property," said the Director General of Small and Medium Industries (IKMA) Ministry of Industry Gati Wibawaningsih in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/4).

To that end, the Ministry of Industry facilitated the holding of a craft exhibition from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) which carries the theme "Special Jogja Craft 2019" for three days, April 9-12 2019 at the Industrial Exhibition Plaza, Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta. This activity, which was initiated by the Regional Council of National Crafts (Dekranasda) DIY, was attended by 52 handicraft entrepreneurs from City / Regency in DIY.

DIY is one of the regions that has succeeded in developing the potential of the creative industry, especially in the handicraft sector. In line with that, the development of the potential of craft IKM is one of the priority programs undertaken by the Ministry of Industry.

Moreover, batik is one of the superior products that contributes significantly to the national economy through its export achievements. The Ministry of Industry targets exports of woven and batik products in 2019 to be able to penetrate the figure of US$ 58.6 million or up 10 percent compared to last year's achievement of US$ 53.3 million. The majority of Indonesian batik exports are shipped to developed countries such as Japan, the Netherlands and the United States. (LM)
