Pertamina sends 20 ships to handle the leakage in YYA-1 well

19 July 2019 15:06

JAKARTA. PT Pertamina (Persero) has sent 20 ships and 7 expert teams to handle oil leaks at the YYA-1 well in Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) block.

Fajriyah Usman, VP of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, said that those teams were sent to evacuate the incident at drilling facilities owned by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of Pertamina. The Incident Management Team (IMT) of Pertamina, said Usman, has been equipped with supporting equipment such as oil boom and dozens of dispersants in drums.

"We continue to coordinate with related parties such as SKK Migas, Directorate General of Oil and Gas, KLHK, KKKS and other parties," Usman said on Friday (19/7) today through written statement received by idnfinancials.com.

The location of the well is about 2 kilometers from the North Java Coast, Karawang, West Java. Pertamina admitted that this incident was similar to a leak at the Macondo oil and gas field in the Gulf of Mexico, known as the Deepwater Horizon incident. Even so, according to Pertamina, the scale of the leak in the YYA-1 well is not very large. (KR/AR)
