Ministry of Industry targets textile products export to reach USD 15 billion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry targets the export value of the textile and textile products (TPT) industry throughout 2019 to reach USD 15 billion. This target increased compared to last year's achievement of USD 13.27 billion.

"We see the national textile industry still growing well. Moreover, the surplus is significant. If there are still imports, namely raw materials is for further processing at the country to increase added value and encourage the national economy," said the Director of the Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry Ministry of Industry, Muhdori in Jakarta, Monday (7/22).

The Ministry of Industry noted the export performance of the national textile industry in the past three years continued to rise. In 2016, the figure was USD11.87 billion and in 2017 touched USD12.59 billion with a surplus of USD5 billion. This trend continues until 2018 with an export value of USD 13.27 billion.

Meanwhile, in January-May 2019, national textile products exports were recorded at USD5.63 billion, up from the same period last year at USD5.61 billion. The composition of the products exported is the majority of which are apparel (63.1%), then there are also threads, fibers and fabrics.

In an effort to spur the national textile industry to be more competitive in the global arena, the Ministry of Industry proposed four strategies, namely proposing machine restructuring budgets, implementing safeguard measures (BMTP) or safeguards, decreasing industrial gas prices, and regulating trade systems for ease of access to materials raw.
