South Korea cancels anti-dumping fee on Indonesian paper products

23 July 2019 15:12

JAKARTA. Uncoated paper products from Indonesia have been exempted from an anti-dumping fee by the Korea Trade Commission (KTC).

The policy was announced after South Korean authorities had completed an investigation on uncoated paper products imported from Indonesia, China, and Brazil. "The anti-dumping investigation began in October 2018," said the Ministry of Trade's Director-General of Foreign Trade Oke Nurwan.

Previously, the KTC recommended imposing a temporary anti-dumping fee on Indonesian paper products amounting to 3%-7%, before finding a lack of significant loss suffered by the South Korean paper industry. Eventually, the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance stopped the anti-dumping investigation and cancelled the planned anti-dumping fee.

Nevertheless, Mr Nurwan said that Indonesia will remain cooperative with the South Korean government's policies because the import duty issues are regulated in a deal with the World Trade Organization (WTO). (KR/MS)
