SOEs aggressively expanding to Africa

BALI - The Indonesian government signed a collaboration with the African government in the field of infrastructure and transportation. Overall cooperation between Indonesia and the African government reached US$ 822 million or around Rp 11.7 trillion.

A number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) involved in the collaboration include, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, PT Kimia Farma Tbk, PT Bio Farma (Persero) Tbk, PT INKA (Persero) , PT Len Industri (Persero) and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero).

The signing was carried out in front of President Joko Widodo and SOE Minister Rini M. Soemarno in the 2019 Indonesia-Africa Infrastructure Dialogue (IAID) at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday (8/20).

"Indonesia is ready and very happy to work with our brothers in Africa. I want to make sure and emphasize that Indonesia is a trusted friend, Indonesia is your true partner, your trusted friend. This is the time Indonesia and Africa can put it in concrete steps, quickly and tactical in order to create a prosperous and united African society," said President Jokowi.

Wijaya Karya (WIKA) is one of the BUMNs that will invest in infrastructure in several African countries. For a business agreement funded by the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI / Indonesia Eximbank) for WIKA in Africa is amounting to USS$ 356 million or around Rp 4.98 trillion.

With details, the construction of a bulk liquid terminal port in Zanzibar-Tanzania worth US$ 40 million, the construction of a mixed-use complex (Goree Tower) in Senegal worth US$ 250 million and the construction of social housing in Ivory Coast worth US$ 66 million.

This forum, among others, aims to strengthen relations between Indonesia and African countries in various fields including infrastructure. In total, there were 53 countries in Africa are invited to attend the event in Bali. (LM)
