PSSI is exploring CPO transportation business

JAKARTA. PT Pelita Samudera Shipping Tbk (PSSI) is exploring opportunities to provide liquid cargo transportation services, since its coal transportation services have slowed down a bit this year.

Iriawan Ibarat, President Director of PSSI, said that his company will provide liquid cargo transportation services starting in 2020. One of the most potential liquid cargo, said Ibarat, is Crude Palm Oil (CPO). "That's the most prospective," said Ibarat on Monday (16/9) today.

Ibarat explained that in 2020, CPO transportation business will be quite strong, because it is supported by government programs such as the implementation of B20, B30, and B40. But it has not yet confirmed how much of the demand for CPO shipments can be absorbed by the company. "The CPO will be brought from the mill to the refinery using a barge that can transport CPO," Ibarat explained.

Besides CPO, PSSI is also considering developing crude oil transportation. However, the company considers that the crude oil transportation business is quite volatile. "So we are focusing on CPO first," Ibarat said. (KR/AR)
