JAKARTA. A number of modern retailers from Indonesia who are engaged in the minimarket and convenience store sectors, are increasingly interested in developing their business to Vietnam.

Nicholas Mandey, Chair of the Indonesian Retail Business Association (Aprindo), said that the expansion needs support from the Indonesian government through relaxation of regulations. "The expansion to Vietnam will not be possible if it is not facilitated by the government," Mandey said as quoted from Bisnis Indonesia on Thursday (23/10) today.

In addition, Mandey also explained that the Indonesian government needs to negotiate with the destination countries so that Indonesian retailers can obtain business license more easily. "For example in terms of tariffs, import duties, to distribution there (the country of destination for expansion)," said Mandey.

So far, there have been two modern retailers from Indonesia developing their business in Vietnam. The two retailers are PT Perintis Jasa Paripurna which operates Century Healthcare pharmacy outlets, and PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAPI) which operates fashion and F&B outlets. (KR/AR)
