The government officially increases the contribution of BPJS Kesehatan

JAKARTA. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has officially approved the increase in BPJS Kesehatan (BPJS Healthcare) contributions for all categories, both contribution assistance recipients (PBI), non-wage recipient participants (PBPU) or independent participants, and wage recipients (PPU). 

The increase is contained in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 75 of 2019 concerning Health Insurance which was signed on 24 October 2019.

For PBPU and PPU, President Jokowi agreed to the proposal from the Ministry of Finance (MoF), which is Rp 42,000 for class III, Rp 110,000 for class II, and Rp 160,000 for class I.

Based on Article 34 Paragraph 2 of the Perpres, the increase in fees will apply starting from 1 January 2020.

In addition, the contribution of PBI is also increased. For PBI, the new tariff has been applied since August 2019. Although the Perpres was only signed in October 2019, the regulation will apply retroactively. In Article 103A Paragraph 1 of the Perpres. it is stated that the central government will provide assistance of Rp. 19,000 per PBI participant currently funded using the Regional Budget. The goal is to reduce the financial burden of regional government. (AM/AR)
