JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is completing the construction of the Nanjung Tunnel in Bandung Regency as part of the Citarum River Flood Control System. The construction of the Nanjung Tunnel in the upstream in Curug Jompong will facilitate the flow of the Citarum River to downstream so that the length and extent of flooding in the Bandung basin area can be reduced.

"This water tunnel was built as a complement to the construction of retention ponds in Bale Endah to reduce flood in Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot and Bojongsoang," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono some time ago.

Nanjung Tunnel consists of 2 tunnels with a length of 230 meters each and a diameter of 8 meters. The construction of the Nanjung Tunnel began in November 2017 by PT Wijaya Karya - PT. Adhi Karya (KSO) with a state budget of Rp 316.01 billion (JO). Construction progress is currently at 95.22% and is targeted for completion by the end of 2019.

In handling the Citarum River flood, Cisangkuy Floodway is currently under construction with construction progress reaching 44.35% and is targeted to be completed in 2020. The construction is carried out in 2 packages, namely package 1 along 3.75 km with a budget of Rp 311.35 billion. Package 2 will built along 10.5 km with an investment of Rp 320.43 billion which aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the South Bandung area of 31.5 ha. (LM)
