JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is preparing electricity supply for the new capital city in East Kalimantan.

Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, said electricity supply for the new capital city in East Kalimantan is estimated to reach 1,555 megawatts (MW) in 2024. This figure, said Tasrif, considers that up to 1.5 million people may move to East Kalimantan. "If (considering) a 30 percent reserve margin, it is estimated that the supply of electricity that must be prepared is 1,555 MW," Tasrif said on the agenda of the Working Meeting at the Indonesian Parliament Building on Wednesday (27/11) yesterday.

Based on the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), until 2024, the government estimates that the electricity supply in East Kalimantan will increase by 691 MW. "So that an additional 884 MW is needed," Tasrif explained.

Meanwhile, PT PLN (Persero) noted that the electricity reserves available in Kalimantan only reached 331.5 MW. (KR/AR)
