BTN will establish AMU to handle problematic loans

04 December 2019 14:40

JAKARTA. PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk or BTN plans to establish an Asset Management Unit (AMU), which will specifically handle home ownership loans (KPR) that are starting to become problematic.

Finance Planning & Treasury Director at BTN, Nixon L.P. Napitupulu, stated that the realization was expected to begin in 2020. Nixon further explained that BTN is a bank that handles KPR, not a property company. In addition, the second-hand home market in Indonesia has not yet been formed, so that when a KPR becomes problematic, the price of the house falls quite significantly because there is no party to maintain price stability.

"If the price falls, people don't want to continue installments. This causes the property market to fall, "Nixon said when met at the IDX Building, Jakarta on Wednesday (4/12).

With the existence of AMU, the unit will conduct activities to find problematic KPRs. After that, he will take care of and stabilize the price. Because, according to him, the KPR owner should get a fair price as a form of investment.

Until now, his party is still in the preparation stage for submission to the OJK. (AM/AR)
