Regional governments asked to boost tenancy in government-built flats

20 December 2019 16:07

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has asked regional governments to boost tenancy in completed government-built flats.

“We hope regional governments can start moving people into these flats immediately after they are completed. We will issue temporary tenancy letters if regional governments have coordinated prospective tenants,” said Director-General for Housing Provision Khalawi Abdul Hamid in an official statement, Friday (20/12).

According to Mr Hamid, government-built flats are part of the government’s effort to anticipate the lack of land for housing. Thus, he hopes that regional governments can facilitate the building permit for such flats and coordinate with their developers so that tenancy can be boosted.

“We hope regional governments will also be proactive in seeking tenants after a flat is completed,” said Mr Hamid. (MS)
