JAKARTA - South Korean company LG Chem Ltd or LG Chemical seeks to participate in the electric vehicle development pilot project in Indonesia. Their involvement can possibly facilitate the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 55/2019 on the Acceleration of the Battery-based Electric Vehicle Programme.

“LG Chemical is expected to participate in the project, such as by providing electric motor battery with a battery swap scheme,” said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita after a meeting with LG Chemical’s board of directors, Wednesday (8/1).

LG Chemical, said Mr Kartasasmita, is expected to collaborate with eight Indonesian electric vehicle manufacturers. The eight companies are PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA), PT Triangle Motorindo, PT Juara Bike, PT Migo Ebike Success, PT Green City Traffic, PT Terang Dunia Internusa, PT Tomara Jaya Perkasa, and PT Volta Indonesia Semesta.

“For the battery swap pilot project, there will be charging facilities in BSD Serpong, BPPT Serpong, and BPPT Jakarta. Subsequently, LG Chemical and a number of local partners will develop swap and charging facilities in Jakarta and Tangerang,” added Mr Kartasasmita. (MS)
