JAKARTA - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has asked Indonesian ambassadors overseas to promote investment in Indonesia through strategic economic diplomacy.

According to the former World Bank Managing Director, Indonesian ambassadors must be able to provide an adequate explanation regarding Indonesia’s economic conditions with good prospects to attract foreign investors.

“I would like to convey the 2019 caleidoscope to illustrate the dynamics and how it impacts on our economy, so you can adequately explain Indonesia’s economic conditions,” said Ms Indrawati at the Indonesian Chiefs of Mission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Work Meeting, Thursday (9/1).

“We are very confident that the Indonesian economy is in good condition, and it is one of the foundations of our strategic standing internationally.”

In addition, Ms Indrawati added, Indonesian ambassadors must also promote incentives such as tax holiday or tax allowance to potential investors, particularly because the process has now been simplified.

“Regarding tax holiday, you can explain to potential investors that the tax holiday process is now very simple and quick, especially if you want to invest in areas prioritised by the government,” said Ms Indrawati. (MS)
