JAKARTA. The Indonesian government is considering to reactivate a number of old oil and gas wells to boost oil and gas production.

Dwi Soetjipto, Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), said there may be leftovers in those old oil and gas wells. "We do not want to leave these old wells unused," Soetjipto said as quoted by Kontan on Friday (17/1) today.

Soetjipto admitted that his party had also reminded PT Pertamina EP to look for partners to help with the reactivation. The subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) has also been asked to set high standards in finding partners. "Obviously (we want) those who have funds and technology," explained Soetjipto.

With these steps, Soetjipto estimates oil and gas production from those old wells this year could reach 20,000 barrels. (KR/AR)
