Five new smelters will be operational this year

JAKARTA. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting to have five smelters operational in 2020.

Yunus Saefulhak, Director of Mineral Business Development at the Ministry of ESDM, said the five smelters consist of 3 nickel smelters, 1 lead smelter and 1 manganese smelter.

A nickel smelter is also being prepared by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) in North Maluku, with an input capacity of 1.21 million tons and a production capacity of 64.65 thousand tons per year. PT Arthabumi Sentra Industri is also developing a nickel smelter in Morowali, with a production capacity of 72.96 thousand tons of nickel pig iron per year.

PT Kapuas Prima Coal is developing a lead smelter in Central Kalimantan, with an input capacity of 36 thousand tons and production capacity of 22.92 thousand tons per year. Fourth, PT Putra Indonesia Jaya is developing a manganese smelter in NTT, with an input capacity of 103.16 thousand tons and a production capacity of 40.37 thousand tons per year.

Finally, PT Elit Kharisma Utama is developing a nickel smelter in Banten, with a total input capacity of 1.2 million tons and production capacity of 97.45 thousand tons per year. (KR/AR)
