Minister of Transportation targets Pangkep-Barru railway line to be completed by the end of 2020

MAKASSAR - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi intensely coordinated with the Regional Government in an effort to complete the construction of the Trans Sulawesi Railroad, namely the Barru-Pangkep Regency by the end of 2020. The Minister said when reviewing the location of the railway development project in Pangkep and Barru, Saturday (2/29).

"We hope that the 30km train line from Garongkong (Barru) to Tonasa (Pangkep) Port can be completed by the end of this year. After that, it is expected to be connected to Bosowa (Marros) by the end of next year. After that we can work on the Makassar-Parepare line," explained the Minister of Transportation.

The Director General of Railways Zulfikri who was also present at the meeting said, the total development budget was around Rp 2.3 trillion with 16 work packages and using the PPP scheme.

"It is expected that the first phase of Tonasa-Marros will be 30 km long and there will be an additional 5 km to Garongkong," said Zulfikri.

The construction of the route from Makassar to the districts of Barru, Pangkep, and Marros requires a land area of ​​around 3,321 area and not all of them have been released because they are still in the consignment stage, BPKP discussion, and others. (LM)
