Government to send skilled shipbuilding workers to Japan

03 March 2020 13:36

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Industry will send skilled shipbuilding workers to Japanese companies to demonstrate the quality of Indonesian human resources.

“This effort is a result of our recent visit to Japan. This is an implementation of the Japanese government’s latest policy, which is the Tokutei Ginou programme which recruits skilled workers from overseas,” said the ministry’s Director of Maritime, Transportation, and Defence Equipment Industries Putu Juli Ardika in an official statement, Monday (2/3).

The Japanese government’s policy, said Mr Ardika, is a response to the growing demand of competent workers in numerous industries such as shipbuilding, aircraft and MRO, and electronics. In supplying workers to Japan, the Ministry of Industry is partnering the Cooperative Association of Japan Shipbuilders (CAJS) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“In the first stage of the programme, we will select the best marine engineering students from various universities in Indonesia. After several phases of selection, 11 candidates will be chosen to be placed in nine shipyards with CAJS membership,” said Mr Ardika. So far, there have been 110 candidates from seven universities participating in the programme. (MS)
