Ministry of Industry maintains productivity of food and beverage industry

JAKARTA - The food and beverage (f&b) industry is one of the mainstay manufacturing sectors which has made a significant contribution to the national economy, both through achieving investment and export value. In fact, the food and beverage industry is also categorized as a strategic sector because it is a food provider for the community.

"Moreover, currently in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, public’s food needs are increasing, along with a policy to work from home," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Wednesday (1/4).

Facing these conditions, the Minister of Industry emphasized that his party continued to maintain productivity until the distribution of the food and beverage industry sector in the country. This effort was carried out so that food supply for the public can be fulfilled properly.

The Ministry of Industry noted, throughout 2019, the food and beverage industry grew by 7.78% or exceeded the economic growth of 5.02%. In addition, the food and beverage industry gave the largest contribution to the value of national exports, breaking through the USD 27.28 billion. Besides that, the food and beverage industry paid up an investment of up to Rp 54 trillion. (LM)
